Hi, intending to set up a 30 cm cube moss and shrimp tank. Wondering whether Fluval C3 is an overkill for it m, even if I turn it to the lowest flow? Appreciate advice, thank you!

I would advise neither. See if you can get an aqua clear. I find they’re more reliable and the amount of media you can pack into it is unrivalled imo

Indeed, that was what I was trying to find! But think we only have aquaclear 20 available at some local shops.

I too, feel aquaclear is a no frill HOF.

I've seen the occasional rare AC50 at C328 amidst the piles of fluval C2 and 3s. You might wanna start there! Even some of the other large GEX filters would work as well if you aren't too particular about brand. Dophin (or Dolphin) would also be a good budget alternative. Last resort would be Carousell/Amazon if you really want the larger Aquaclears!

I had the Fluval C2 on my cube tank but have since changed to the new Seachem Tidal 35. The Tidal 35 is a much better filter in my opinion as,

    1) It holds more filter media.
    2) Much better flow rate adjustment (can be adjusted to almost 0 flow, perfect for water changes and Betta).
    3) Looks cleaner with no inlet piping
    4) Quieter (runs like an Electric car compared to my Fluval C2 and C4)
    5) Self Prime! (no more filling the filter with water before starting it up, perfect in the event of a black out)

    Cheers!

I have a standby tidal 55. Great HOB filter as what Route mentioned. But in a shrimp tank is a headache, too many inlets, I killed quite afew shrimps every maintanence

    1) from removing the media
    2) removing the media container
    3) pulling out of the pre filter

after removing the media I have to leave it in a bucket of water, shake off the shrimplets, and safely put them back into the tank, hoping my fishes won’t eat them... don’t know how to cover the inlets, suck thump and change back to canister again...
