Sounds like the brand name of a pimple cream.

Okay seriously, doesn't the label say anything? What is it supposed to be used for? I did a search and one link says that this stuff is supposed to "burn out" fungus and also clean water!
Unless you mean Oxycare which apparently contains Oxytetracyclin, based on one link I found. Ok, so it might also help in reducing the size of pimples too.
I think it's probably a tetracycline derivative since it fits the description in the first paragraph (i.e. fungus).

If I remember correctly, Oxycure is supposed to supersaturate the water with Oxygen.
There is a school of thought that with supersaturation of O2, the healing of wounds would be very fast.
Our dear bro Hobbit6003(Kenny) could probably give more details of such treatments.
I have 2 seperate incidents in my small tank where I had yamato shrimp wipeouts... in both cases the shrimp exhibited the same symptoms... a seemingly lack of air... the ones which survived stuck their heads out of the water... the others died and had a bright orange spot on their heads. Both times this happened after a water change... after weeks of testing, the biggest suspicion lay with oxycure. though I would say that I'm not 100% certain.
As Vican mentioned though oxygen is supposed to help healing. However, oxygen at high levels is toxic. Even to us. Pure oxygen breathed in at pressure WILL result in oxygen toxicity. I can't remember what the level it is, but I think it was something like 1.6 partial pressures... I forget.
Anyway, all I'm saying is be careful what you throw in your tank...

Oxytetracycline is an antibiotic. It inhibit bacteria mutliplication. It is yellowish crystaline powder.
... it could be a oxygen releasing salt... a peroxide maybe.

don't know, but what led me to be suspicious is:
some part of the instructions said " aerate well"
lol
ok: I've been reading ectopur by sera,
I suspect they are the same thing.
extopur is sodium borate + sodium perborate + sodium chloride.
so the oxygen part is sodium perborate.
aya. Just get a air pump and pump air inside lor. rather than putting some unknown chemical inside.
This topic sure conjures up Michael Jackson and his oxygen chamber!
But seriously, I've used Oxycure before... supposedly helpful as destressing agent when introducing new fish. Label also claims to promote wound healing. But, does it really make a difference? That's something I cannot vouch for.
loupagou,
I hope no little children saw you stick your taste buds into that white stuff[]

I wud rather do a large water change to replenish all the essential minerals for healing, especially for mi cichlids, which always had badly torn fins.
