I have read a lot of text about brown algae,
from different forums, from different Homepage,

What i come to understand was...
brown algae is due to excess phosphates and silicates,
common for new tank and SAE wont eat it.

But what i dont understand was...
why is everybody describing it as soft
when mine is hard (I have to 'scrub' the one on the glass)

those on the rock is so hard that make me
wanna take it out and brush it out using sand paper.

    My question would be:
    1) Is there only one 'Brown Algae' out there?
    2) How do i handle this as it is so annoying.

    Need advice please...

My tank was set up on the 6th of July 10BerawnAlge.JPG

The Brown algae that you described is is actually a type of diatom.

Otos and young pleco seem to like to eat them.
