starve SAE and Yamato shrimps
IMO the best wqay still manually remove as much as possible, then use algae eater to finish the one that you miss.
I'm a newbie in this hobby and just had the same problem recently. After some research, i stopped my fertilizer dosing and did a blackout for 3 days, followed by reduced photo-period (6 hours instead of my usual 10 hours) and did daily 10% water change. After about a week, now i see most of the hair algae turning white (hope its a sign that its dying off).
I'm not sure what i did is correct, but just sharing. Hope it helps! Cheers!
Good to know. Water change always help especially for smaller tanks like 10-30 GAL type. They (include Amano's tank) sometime do water change on a daily basis.

the common rosy barb feast on green filamentous algae. One in a tank is enough to clear it all.
