    This is my latest setup.

After so many unsuccessful attempts with the mosses, I had gave up totally with moss and switch to the "accidental" Riccia that came with the moss.

    Please comment on the layout.

    Thanks.

Very nice and plant look healthy.

    I'm no expert...Just share how I feel.
I feel that the overall view is a bit heavy on left side.

Totally agree the left side is a little heavy since the plants there are generation 1. The right hand side had just been added in the past few weeks.

Is that Sagittaria on the background? You just snip it off for trimming?

The attention is drawn towards the black empty background , trying to bring out the effect using a flat driftwood with riccia ... unnatural.
    Cheers!

    Those are actually Vallisneria.
Yep, cut off the top to allow more lights thru. The Riccia and other plants on the lawn are still growing and needs a lot of lights.

The cut off plants look awfully unnatural, much like a poor hair day after barber.
Hoping much the plant can grow to become more natural.

Totally agree with both you and Simon the drift wood looks unnatural, maybe I will add in another piece to make the drift wood look like a broken branch.

As for the empty black background, waiting for the Vallisneria and Limnophila aquatica to grow and spread towards each other, forming a curtain to cover the black background.

Thank you all for the valueable feedback.

    criticism makes one improve.

Georgeer, would it be better to trim the Vallisneria at the base instead of giving the "blunt cut" ? I cut it at the best, what do you think ?

Well, I am at the learning phase too, may try out your method later.

    Thanks for the advise.

Actually, I quite like the flat piece of wood... though it does look a tad unnatural... still it works for me... goes to show that everyone has different taste.

One thing I like is that you left lots of swimming spaces for your fishes whiel still keeping your tank pretty well planted...

As for trimming the vals, well I used to do that as well... its the fastest and easiest method... overall a pretty good job.
