For my case, I will leave the parents with the fries until they are free-swimming.
Had a pair of koi albino breeding last sunday and the wriggler stage started on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, my itch hands changed the surrounding tank background from a planted tank photo to a white background for better visibility of the fries. My hands got itchier and I removed the male from the tank after I witnessed the female chasing the male away. Along the way a piece of plastic sheet fell into the tank and startled the female.
Went to work and called home to check that wrigglers are still around. Ok good news. Went home in the evening and notice female is not guarding any spot and fries were missing.
I suppose my actions have agitated the mum and gobbled the babies up. Any angel lovers out there can lend some advice for the following queries:
- should I remove the male? Or both the parents?
- I know I shouldn't but will changing the background be so traumatising?
- should I just leave the parents and all setting alone and net them up only when they are free swimming?
Any wise advice will be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks

Thanks for that advice.
The pair is breeding soon, I will let the parents hang around til they are free swimming.
So do you remove the parents once the free swim?
Thanks again.
Yes. I removed the parents once I see the fries free swimming. I will then introduce fries food to the tank.
Thanks for the reply. The new batch of eggs were gobbled again before turing to wrigglers. the next batch will probably be articially raised.
