Since you are having a 2ft tank, I can suggest you to try the plants from the Hygrophila and Bacopa family if you don't mind stem plants. Hygrophila polysperma is one of hardiest, and if you can't even grow this plant in your tank, no other fauna and flora can flourish in it, or so from what I read from an aquatic plant book. I got in total 4 species from these 2 family.
My low-tech 2ft tank has only a T8 15W light and the hygrophila and bacopa family are doing quite well, so try them out. Nana is suppose to be low-tech and very hardy but somehow it is not the case with a handful of us. You can check on the thread on nana dying and yellowing that I started.

My 2 ft tank
Flora: Anubias barteri var Nana, var "Gold" and "mini", Crypto Wendtii, C.parva, Marsilea Hirsuta, Flame Moss, Hygrophila Polysperma, H.Violacea & H.Corymbosa, US Fissiden
Fauna: Guppy, Pelvicachromis Pulcher, Nannacara Anomala, Laetacara Araguaiae 'Buckelkopf'
I have Nana 'Petite' in the shaded area of my 2ft, they are doing fine but occasionally I can see some brown leaves.
hey there, you can try crypts, ferns, nanas and rotalas(i think).
Hi, go for hygrophila or bacopa in my opinion, they are fast growing stem plants.
