just got a pair of fish from a LFS at Roxy Square (opposite THE katong laksa), looks like licorice gouramis to me, but would like to know the exact species name.

    pics can be found here:

    anyone here can help?

the shopowner told me that they were from thailand, and he only knew that they were 'gouramis'.

bought them at $1 each, which i think is a good deal cos they look real nice with those irids...currently keeping them with a pair of betta pangkalanbun...

Those are dwarf croaking gouramis (Trichopsis pumilus) also known as pgymy gouramis. Fairly hardy and lively, with wonderful colours when in good condition.

Liquorice gouramis are much harder to come by and are very very sensitive to poor water conditions and stress.

ooh MrTree, you like this fish huh?

why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.
