    Just changed 30% water yesterday.
This morning I noticed tiny white worm-like critters in the water and tank walls. A lot of them. Are these protein worms.
    How do I clear them?
    Thanks.

Haven't done anything yet, thinking of changing 50% of the water this evening. Will let you know the result.

    hi tawauboy

this white worms you are talking about are they the wriggly type like tubifex worms or those that stay on the glass and gravel....

If it is the first one, your fish will have a feast on them and its over....these worms usually may come in your fozen live feeds...and hatches in the filter......once you turn your filter off and on, they will come flying out.........and chomp chomp chomp by your fish

if it is the other it is plenria(wrong spelling) aka flat worms...that happens when you have plenty of uneaten food in your water and they feed on them......cut down you feeding and try cleaning or vacuming your gravel more often.

think DEA has more info on this

    st,

    Thanks.
I did not feed with frozen food just flakes. The fishes are 6nos of tiger barbs and fed on alternate days.
I switched off the pump for a couple of hours after water change. Switched on pump before bedtime and this morning, it's there.

The white worms seems to be round, very small... need magnifying glass to see properly[], and seems to be curled.
Yeap! They stick mostly to the glass, some are free floating.

    hiya

on hindside..i believe it may be flatworms that have been dwelling in your filter as uneaten food gets sucked into the system....do you siphon or vacum your gravel base?

any chance of you taking a pics?

the free floating ones are nematodes, and your fish will eat them
the ones that stick to the glass are planaria, and some fish might eat them

    the cause? new tank, overfeeding
cut down on feeding slightly, leave them alone, and poof, they'll be gone in no time
DO NOT add things to the water to kill them (ie CLOUT etc)
you never know what unadvertised side-effects they could have
