    Say,
    anyone got general tips on pruning? Like for instance cut from top or bottom?

    depend on the type of plants you pruning. Below are my experience from my own tank. If not correct please feel free to correct me.

    Stem plants are easier... just trim to the desire height, and let it grow.

    Rosette plants, you can only trim away older leaf outside, new leaf will form in the centre. height depends of the Species.

    Rhizome plants, just cut away the unsightly browning leaves stalks. Eg. Nana, Java Fern, unsually slow growth so not really much chance to prune.

    then there are those spread by runner, like Glosso, Hairgrass... For me I Just cut those excess unwanted growth, or you can carefully uproot, but careful else one family chain will be uprooted UPROOTING other plants which is grew pass.
