    Dear all,

I have setup a glosso based tank last week. Hope it grows well.

Planning to add some shrimps next week. Will malayan shrimp eat glossos?

With adequate lighting and co2, when will glosso starts to spread? I have added 22 capsul of monster roots as well.

Thanks for your answers in advance.

My malayan shrimps always play with those "dead" glosso.. not sure if they actually eat them.. but they will leave those living glosso alone.

Try using the search and type in Glosso or Glossostigma, I found quite a number of good answers. Anyway, you can also try aquabotanic.com Inside there has one guy who set up a glosso tank. Very impressive.

I find glosso fast grower and very high maintainence. Also maintaining layers of new growth over old is very difficult.

High price to pay for the good look.

Don't know if anyone out there try to delibrately slow down its growth by reducing the growth condition (nutrients, light and Co2)

True! once the glosso are spreading, it spreads very fast!

The glosso will overlap each others path, the leaves below the taller glosso leave will get algae very easily. Anyone have this problem?

No algae for my glosso at leaves below. But it grows very fast. It grows so thick that my tank depth is getting shallower. Regularly trim about every month till mostly roots are left.

The only thing I like about glosso is the small round leaves, suitable for small tank. Don't really like the speed of its growth. Still looking for a replacement for glosso to some other small & low maintenance one, if there's any.

Nutrients, if reduced for glosso, will show signs of deficiency quickly.

Try Eriocaulon Cinereum, very cute. I like glosso too but too much work.

Yap, they are really sensitive to nutrients changes, I used to keep a small bunch as indicator plant. After I get the hang of the dosing, I wipe it out totally.
It is good as a indicator plant.

    Just like glosso,
Does it need lots of light to remain crawling?, does it tends to grow upright in lower light, Does it overlap when growth become crowded?

It does not "stand up" at all.

Thanks for all the quick response.

My glosso tank is about a week only but did not find many spreading plants but they did not die.

I have base fert and monster root in the tank.

I always find many leaves of the glosso floating on the surface of the tank after i put in malayan shrimps, Cardinal Tetras, OTOs and SAE. Dunno who is the culprit.

    I am using a PL 55W x 2 light for my 156Liter tank.

Anyone knows why it dun spread? or probably it's my tanks is not cycled? or stable?

    Thanks a million.

All plants take time to take root before they start growing. 1 to 2 weeks is the normal time they take. As long as light, CO2 & nutrients is in place, you don't have to worry.

U are using 2x55W PL light for your 3ft tank.
    That may not be enough.

On top of it, gloss need strong direct light. How do you arrange your light? Better to be on top of your gloss.

110W over 41gal, that should be enough. I have grown glosso with lesser light. Patience.
