Observe the feeding behavoir and the colouratoin on your fishes. If you find any fish which is sluggish or not feeding, you any have some problem. Fishes which is stressed will loses some of their colouraton. These are signs which points to potential problem
Keeping water in good condition by regular water changes is essential. So is good quality fish food. Avoid live feeds like tubifex worms that could carry diseases.

I agree wif BC... most fishes in this stage of dropsy aren't really gonna make it. I usually go ahead wif the treatment anyone to medicate any other fishes which might be in the early stages of infection.

Looks like my SAE had dropsy too around the same time and went to pet heaven liao ..
Coloration was still good, didn't look visibly stress as it was still gobbling food the night before .. no live worms just pellet & dried tubifex ..
Found it "hanging" behind CO2 reactor .. sluggish .. died that night..
Stil no idea what happened..
