    I searched through past threads in this forum & noticed that there are very little discussions about micropoecilia. Therefore as the title suggests, I'm creating a new thread hoping to find out the number of hobbyists who are interested in fishes of this genus. They are pretty little gems but are seldom seen in the aquarium trade & I for one believe that these fishes definitely deserve a place of their own right.

    For those who don't know, here's a website with pictures of various micropoecilia species.

    It's a pity that Singapore has a limited species of livebearers which are usually confined to fancy guppy strains etc. when we have such good climate all year round to keep many other interesting livebearers, don't you think so?

    with regards,
    Shi Xuan

    Here's an online article extracted from TFH on a new species of micropoecilia named "species 2", a yet unidentified livebearer from Brazil.

    The article is dated last year but its still interesting nonetheless. >.<

    Hi,

    I have M.picta only at the moment. They remind me of those wild guppies I caught during my childhood days. Their acquisition was a coincidence as they happened to be shipped in together with some other bags of guppy/endler strains at C328 the other day. They are very easy to breed & now I have a few fry swimming in my breeding tank.

    I'm hoping to give other micropoecilia species a try since I have ample tank space at the moment should I be able to lay my hands on them.

    Re: Micropoecilia... anyone?

    I've been keeping these fishes for 3-4 months. One thing I notice about the fry is that they are notoriously slow growing. The largest of the 4 fry I have in my tank is approximately 2.8 cm. The rest of the fry are between 1.5-1.8 cm. They seem to be quite similar to their close relative, the M.parae melanzona in quite a few distinct characteristics;

    -few fry with gestation period similar/ slightly longer than a guppy.
    -doesn't exhibit superfoetation like the rest of the micropoecilia species
    -the full-grown size of both M.picta & M.parae males & females are 3cm & 5cm respectively

    Therefore, I'd this conclusion that M.picta might have a similar growth rate as M.parae in my perspective as well. However, I would still like to see what others might have to say.
