    I would say a small bunch. And after you split it into bunch, don't throw it back into water. Just place it on moist cloth. It will get tangled with with the rest and will be an issue during planting. Hair Grass spread very fast so doesn't really matter how big the bunch is. If you having different foreground plant like HC, create a different section with stones/rocks if not it will grow into the HC area.

    For myself i do it in small bunch abt 5 to 10 stalk and place them about 3 cm apart and they will spread.For a good start you may trim the tip. It works for me bro.

    i planted my hairgrass in a small batch of 5stalks.. It's about 3 weeks now..

    Can anyone advise why the hairgrass has only grew taller and i don't see any runners spreading them around.

    i have no livestocks , Co2 at 3bps , 36w of T5HO photoperiod 10hrs daily.

    Trim the top and trim some of the roots (like the tropica video). Mine is less 2 weeks and runners invading my HC area already.

    hmm what do u mean by trim the roots?

    similar situation as alex.tan. only getting a bit taller, then stop. no runners

    When i trim the roots runners grow v fast. But when i trim the tips they just turn yellow at the tips. Not sure if thsts normal
