One clear way to confirm is to check if the black line extends thru to the tail fin. What i understand is all of them do have the line on the tail fin.

IMO, the fish you posted isn't the real SAE. How to identify one? Firstly, the giveaway is the fins. Real SAEs have clear fins whereas the one you posted has yellow coloured fins. Second, from what i remember, SAEs have a longer snout than the fish you posted. Third, SAEs have only a pair of barbels. Fourth, the black line runs to the end of the tail. Fifth, IME, SAEs have only 1 colour tone above the black line. The fish you posted has 2. Think that's all I can recall for now.

If i am not mistaken the one you bought is a Chinese Algae Eater, or commonly called Fake SAE. I have one of these too, came together with another real SAE. Be warned, they have a tendency to be really aggressive and can be quite nasty to its tankmates. Mine does.

Always buy SAE from a reliable source such as Mr Chan's Nature Aquarium.

    100% NOT SAE.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

think you have gotten your answer already from the bros here.

you want, i pass you one real SAE but you got to collect at Bukit Batok West. So that you can compare and hopefully you will get a genuine one next time.

In case for those who did not noticed, there is a list of some frequently visited lfs compiled in the forum. The link is located at the top right of the page.

I have bought the exact same fish from the same shop at CCK. It is a fake SAE. It attacked other fishes and I had to move it to another tank. It does not eat algae at all.

I bought a real SAE from a Tiong Bharu LFS later. It's not aggressive, and happily eat the algae. [:]

Does anyone know of any good LFS around CCK, Bukit Panjang or Woodlands? The one at Bukit Panjang central is hopeless, and the one at Bukit Panjang Plaza got attitude problem... The one at CCK is ok (despite selling fake SAE), but rather expensive.

I am staying at Bukit Batok. So usually it is C328 for me. Farm mart also have a few, since you at staying at CCK, you might wanna try farmmart.

Are you looking for fishes or plants mainly? If fish, also can try Ginza plaza.

these are the better one I know of, let me jog my memory more. will update once i can remember more

Can also catch a free feeder bus at the CCK MRT to Qian Hu. I believe they still have it and they are small ones too.
