    Hi,

I came across this beautiful plant (Hemianthus callitrichoides) while surfing. Have been trying to find it in S'pore since. If it's available here, anyone know where I can get it?

Also need suggestions for a background plant to place in front of the eyesore reactor.
    Something that:
    - can grow up to 30+cm
    - has good spread of many mid-size leaves
    - mid to deep green colour

    Thanks a lot!
    Vic

Try tape grass, corkscrew grass or any vallisnaria species.

    Cheers!

    Hi mate!

Like you, I'm also very interested in HC. Actually, I'm pinning my hopes on Aquarama, specifically Tropica to bring in the plant for sale.

    Cheers!

Hey, me too was looking for this plant. I was hoping that it too will be available at Aquarama.
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.

Yeah, hope to see it in aquarama. I wonder if there's some way to order the plant in, since there's quite a few of us wanting it.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on it around 1 1/2 years ago in one of my overseas trips....

For all you folks considering it.... Here's my experience with it.
    Plant Origin: Cuba I believe
Optimal Conditions: Requires soft water, high light conditions. Also need a rich substrate...and cooler waters... (max 27 degrees)

The leaves of the plant is 1-2mm long and really requires some form of skill to anchor it. In my opinion, the plant is pretty difficult to maintain given its attraction to algae.

There was a plant exchange in one of the section in this forum though. Still waiting for the outcome.

I'm not surprised that you have tried that plant b4. Heard from the people from Teo's that you bring them special plants from abroad frequently. Juz curious, how did you know where to search for them overseas? From forums in other countries, I supposed...

So what made you gave up on that plant eventually or you are actually still keeping it?

    Cheers!

Me? Think you're mistaken Bro. The plants that you see at Teo's are from his overseas counterpart lah. I maintain a strict policy of throwing my excess plants away.

I dun have the plant liao.

if you stunt HM, you will get the same effect.

I was able to stunt a HM bush to get this effect, I think you can see it on aquabotanic on this year's earlier competition.

eyesore when algae gets into it and trimming is a pain., cos you trim it like a hair cut and all these small little leaves end up stuck everywhere in driftwood/filter , wall etc.

    ---
    as for your background plants.
I suggest cryptocoryne balansae, aponegetonifolia ,usteriana and retrospiralis

They are NEAT, Manageable and not prolific, unlike the vals which will overtake your tank and spread its runners all over like kudzu

    Chris,

Hemianthus callitrichoides leaf size is almost 50% smaller than HM. So really must have the patience and skill...
