    Hello people,

I am going to decomission my 1.5ft shrimp tank. Thinking of getting tetras instead.

Is there a way i can skip the water cycle process when i decomm?

What kind of tetras do you guys recommend, also the water quality they need? Can i use soil and lightly planted?

    Thanks in adv.

Not sure what you mean by "water cycle process when I decomm" as water cycling is for SETTING UP a new tank to get the bacteria/water parameters right prior to introduction of fauna. (shrimps or fishes).

For the types of tetras, it's a personal decision - get what you like! For a small tank, you'd probably not want to have too many species as you'll need a minimum of about 10 for each species as they are schooling fish and need to be in a community. I'd recommend perhaps 10 of 1 kind only.

Most common and popular is the Cardinals, with the Neons a close second. Look up the requirements for the species you have selected and it should be quite straight forward to get it up. Plants will be good as it helps with the ecosystem and makes the tank more pleasing (IMO).

    All the best!

if your water is good enough for the shrimp, tetra should have no problem. just dump them in.

Just get a pail of current tank water, run your existing canister in it and wash your tank will do the job.

^ Hi, u mean i can change out 100% of the tank water, ill just have to wash my filter in the used tank water and the fishes can be introduced immediately?

Any particular fish to mix well with Tetras?

You do not change 100% water. Meaning save the current tank water with current filter running in pail. Do what ever you want with the tank. Then fill up the tank with the pail water. But note that whatever new soil you use, sure need time to be clear again.

Since your tank is fairly small, only smaller tetras would be suitable. Cardinals and neons are good choices, but there are many others that are worth looking at. Google up for tetras in particular to find a species to your liking. You can mix them with barbs of the same size, or with danios.

Where barbs are concerned, I personally prefer Cherry Barb. Cheap, nice to have and good community fish.

If you have lack of a thicker substrate add till desired and keep it running few more days then add fauna.
The same goes if your planting too.
Hope I can see pictures soon
