Hmm...parotocinclus sp (3) "peru". One of my favorite little fish.

I would say that the first picture can probably be better with the front of the fish being sharper. It seems that the area of sharpness is focused on the second part of the fish. As mentioned earlier by LSZ, if you can't get the entire profile to be sharp, at the least, get the eyes to be sharp. Works wonder.

The second picture can probably benefit from a tigher crop.

By the way, I like the way the picture is presented too. Simple white border with thin black keyline makes it looks like a proper photograph.

    Keep shooting!!!

Yup i agree i should keep my hands steady if not i should get a tripod to help with my shaky hands, one slight movement and the focusing point is out.

Care to suggest a good tripod for shooting fish photography ?

I aslo agree with tigher cropping on the 2nd picture will try harder next time in the mean time hope that this 2 small fellas can make it to the next session![]

actually i quite like the 2nd picture as it is
yes under exposed, but i still like it.
Its got very good potential if you can improve on the technical aspect.

i am very sure you can improve it with practice. There are many guys here who can share experiences and give good advice to you too.

Things get exciting when your pictures reflect how you see things (fish included)

Bene, from my photoarchive point of view pic 3 is better as it shows a clear profile, but in terms of photography I still prefer the first two although they could be better in exposure and background contrast.

I understand that we should avoid having the subject square in the middle of the shot (of course there are exceptions but I'm too newbie to photography to tell [] )

now as far as photography goes, pic one has a big problem with that big bright eyes of the background fish.

Yes it's my G3. Mecabliz is a brand of another flash. They produce only flashes.

ah, your Mecabliz slaved to the 420EX? How do you avoid pre-flash?

Sorry ah too chim for my understanding. Preflash in where ? When the 420ex fires a preflash it isn't strong enough to fire the mecabliz but when the 420ex fires the main flash, the meca follows. Correct me if i'm wrong don't pretty much understand..
    Cheers!

heh Bene, you just answered the question. so the mecabliz don't fire at the 420EX preflash [:]

I'm still waiting to get the wireless transmitter and another 420EX.

The pre flash on the 420 EX does not affect this slave flash. No problems at all. But you do not have E-TTL with it. So all adjustments have to be manual.

As for the picture. I think you can do with less compression. The background is pixelated as a result of trying to keep the file size small.

Also, the colors seems a bit dull. Your flash positioning could be improved to bring better colors.

Lastly, if you are using the 420 EX as a bounce flash, then try to shoot directly perpenticular to the front glass pane. Less distortion and color shear.
