Does anyone have experience with substrate heater? How beneficial is it? Think it would be expensive to set up.

    Thanks.

I do not think that you will need substrate heater. IT will add on to the amount of heat in the Tank. Unless of course you got a chiller or live in a cold country.

Substrate heaters are used to oxygenate the substrate by convection in bid to reduce anaerobic regions aka dead spots. Some also claims that convection will help prevent nutrients (in rich substrates like peat, compost and earthworm castings) from leeching into the water column.

Some people swear by them but many others don't.
