They do very little damage to plants in my tank with Java Moss, Java Fern, HC and anubias nanas. I've seen them grazing off the plants (not sure if they actually eat the plants or the micro-organism) but never much damage. They seem to like having the shade and hides among the ferns and nanas.
They don't seems to eat the plants I put in, or to maybe not to a noticeable extent.
I mainly grow some mosses, anubias and artillery fern.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and he will drink beer while getting sunburnt.
These guys do consume plants in the wild. But i believe the damage is very small. I have christmas moss in my neon vampire tank and they are still there. In my previous set ups, I also remember putting in java moss and they don't seems to consume them. However I would not say the same for Spider crabs...
my nanas leaes are getting botak by these fellows.
