    Hi,,
As a newbie, I inadvertently posted this on another thread without response so I will try my luck here. Here goes:-
    Hi,
... got an Eheim 2217 and a Resun CL650 chiller.
Tank is 5ftx2ftx2ft so approx 560 litres - (did not less the substrate and glass thickness volumes)

Question 1: Technical info for the CL650 says pump outflow at 1800l/h - wow! Eheim 2217 claims a flow rate about 1000l/hr although realistically I doubt much more than 800l/h ?? or less - media/debris etc
My temp target is 27 Celsius. The CL650 manual states that for 22 Degrees the recommended tank size is <650 litres and for 27 Degrees the recommended tank size is <1000gal.
Is my equipment matched or not - and if not what can I do.

Question 2: I am in PJ, Malaysia and whilst the overall consensus is to modify chiller thermostat to take temp from tank (install an external thermostat on chiller and disable the original thermostat)..where can I do this in KL/PJ. Appreciate a specific recommendation of a shop to retrofit thermostat etc if possible

    Question 3: Connection sequence
Eheim 2217 filter out --chiller input--output--tank? Any need for a pump?

Thanks very much for any help!
    cheers

Re: Resun Cl650 and eheim 2217 compatibility

    1. You might endup with start-stop issue. Basically due to less flowrate the temperature inside the cooling chamber reach the set temperature faster than the water in the tank. Wither you get faster flow power head or modify it with external sensor. By the way what is the size of your tank?

    2. You might want to try posting at MAC (http://www.my-mac.net/forum/)

    3. If you add pump, you disconnect the 2217. So you will have 2 set of piping, one for chiller+pump and the other one for filter.

I have combine CL650 with a 1200LPH canister and it runs great. It runs about 35min and rest for an hour plus.

Thanks. Believe it or not I have tried to register at MAC but it keeps denying me with a reason that the email address is not allowed. Its a gmail address. I cant seem to get to anyone to clarify what the problem is. ITs very annoying not having a contact person to refer to. Its a circular problem - to get to the administrator you need to be registered..?! Have they closed membership? any ideas on how I can get to MAC. Cheers

If possible can you pm or post your email address, will make exception for your email address. MAC have been bomb by many spams, so they are blocking any free email such as hotmail, gmail, yahoo.

It works. Thanks very much and I was lucky to get a moderator. By way of feedback, perhaps the Mac site could have a clearer mechanism for 'contacting a moderator' - I couldn't find it without the need to log in. I imagine there must be many legitimate fans out there who faced the same dilemma as me. Anyways - thanks again.

Re: Resun Cl650 and eheim 2217 compatibility

Hi, I face the same problem with flowrate with chiller, it's quite challenging to meet the min flow rate chiller needs, unless the tank is large enough to take the water flow.

But the livestocks may not enjoy it. With some guide here, I am trying to DIY to modifying the chiller to external thermometer probe as well.

Do PM me if you need the external probe detail.

you need at least 10 post before able to PM.

Anyway, you can take out the sensor, put something to replace it and to stop leaking. then extent the sensor wire. This is the easiest way if you can't find any shop selling sensor near your location.

Bigbir26, any info on what probe you used? I'm also trying to make an external probe for my Resun cl-280. All I know is that the original probe is a 2-pin probe.

blurless, I follow the guideline posted on "Arofanxxx" forum. Quite straightforward, you can run a search, as I not sure proper to post the link here..

As for the NTC probe with stain less steel end, you are right. It comes with 2 pins end, not the same as those recommended by forumer (Fox from Korea).

Since cannot that brand in Msia, so I use another brand which reasonable price.

Is that post talking about using a cheap electronic thermometer's probe and connect to the chiller?

I actually thought about doing a custom-made temp controller using a PIC microcontroller but if placing the probe in the tank works too I'll give it a try. (or maybe I can reprogram the PIC controller in the temp controller...... :P)

Re: Resun Cl650 and eheim 2217 compatibility

Using back the original temp control unit work for my Hailea. Just adjust the calibration button (not sure Resun can do) to match the temp in tank against reading by chiller.

Based on advice from forumer here. The cause of the inconsistent temp kick in /out due to temp difference due to flow rate. The chiller well cold / heat up too fast, therefore using an external probe help to get actual temp from fish tank which is more accurate.

thanks for the forumer contribution which make this idea work.

keep us update on ur DIY as result may differ..
