    Hi all,

i've some red leaves plants like ludwigia repens, rotala rotundifolia and rotala sp. 'colorata'. When i first got them, the leaves were of purple or red colour but after awhile it turned into green. It stays that way thereafter and even after pruning. Are there any ways to bring back the red?

Some of my tank parameters as follows,

    Tank size: 50 x 31 x 32cm
    Lightings: 2 x PL 32W (1 blue of 10000k & 1 white of 10000k) and 1 x LED 8W of 4500k
    Duration: 8hrs daily (on 4hrs, off 1hr, on 1hr)
Temperature: average between 26.5 to 28.5 degree celsius
Weekly or more than weekly dosage of seachem excel and Profito Plant Fertilizer. I don't have any test kits for the rest of the parameters.

    Thank you.

Re: Turning from purple/ red to green

Main cause of red plants turning green or yellow is the lack of Iron, potassium also seems to have some effect try dosing some liquid iron fertilizers, add in some CO2 and use a kind of tablet fertilizer called root monster available in most LFS. This is from my experience though other bros may have different thoughts.

Re: Turning from purple/ red to green

Steven, I've had the exact outcome you've described, all colours "retarded" to a (boring) green despite dosing with Seachem Iron and Potassium etc etc. Didn't think I was doing anything wrong, and thought initially it may be my LED lights I've just installed...

Then I switched to dry ferts, and WAHLAH:
I'm thrilled now; not to mention dry ferts costs are only a fraction of the liquid ones!.

Wow!!! Nice!!! That's what I want to achieve.
Sorry, no offences to anyone, am still a noob in planting. Is this the root master method that have suggested?
Can you share where you got your dry fert from and how did you add it to your tank with livestock already in there?

Steven, Root Monster is a base substrate fertiliser. You can try getting the dry fert from Lushgro, I saw some LFS selling some dry fert too. I have bottle of Lushgro liquid fertiliser that I can share with you, since it will take a long time to finish them as the quantity need is very little.

Re: Turning from purple/ red to green

I have Hygrophila polysperma "Rosanervig". The leaves turned from reddish then to whitish. Can it be the same situation?
If I am already using a base fert like ADA amazon II , is it advisable to add dry fert? Assuming that this soil is only used for like 3 months or so.

Some plant require good supplement from the substrate to grow well like the Crypts and Echino species, you will notice thick long roots when you pick them out from the substrate. Other plant do absorb nutrients from the water column and that is why the need to put in liquid ferts or dry ferts. I kept before H.Polysperma "Rosanervig" before and they responds well to the micro and macro ferts put in, but they are only pinkish at its best.

root monster is a substrate fertilizer like what they said. basically it enhances the root systems and make it easier for the plant to take in nutrients along with providing various nutrients. which should help in the coloration of your plants.

The plants you mentioned have good results using root monster from my own experience.

Steven, you can get dry ferts from a few sources locally:
    - Y618 has 'some'; NatureAquarium used to hv them but not lately
    - Singapore hydroponics (they hv some resellers running around)
    - ecocityhydroponics. (Alfred is in this forum)
    I ordered online from US

I used "EI" method for dosing, just sprinkled the powder directly into the tank, the fishes didn't seem to mine. . I know many actually prepare solutions of the ferts n dose liquid form.

Bro Apistoinka: the plants in my photo are (from left to right)
    Rotala Rofundifolia 'Indica'
    Rotala Rofundifolia 'sp' green
    Ludwigia arcuata

Think should be Rotala rotundifolia varieties, not "Rofundifolia" .. spelling error
They can be bought/ordered locally also.
