    Re: Water parameters for Sakura

i did.. but i am away now, therefore i told my son not to turn it on. Coz when it is on, the amount of water evaporating is too fast, and i was told that the water i bottled is not too correct because i added mineral plus to it. Friends here are concerned that gH may be raised too high. So to prevent top up, fan is turned off.

moreover, my surface skimmer does not seem to float according to water level. So when water evaporates, the skimmer makes this gargling sound as it is sucking in air. Yes, my skimmer is fixed at one level. i pushed it against the plastic part of the OHF..i tried releasing it, it just sinks down the tube.

    So you wash your filter!

If u wash with tap water. not only u eliminate the BB and you may introduce chlorine and metals, So thats 1 of the fast killing reason, metal in water like copper

Less BB to break down waste , means ammonia will stay longer thus damaging the shrimps

I think the temperature is fine for sakura

Maybe you can tilt the skimmer to like 45 deg
What are the other options for oxygen ?
are there any air pump or rainbar ?
is there enough hiding place for the shrimps?

i assume you are talking about those oxygen stone that emit oxygen in water
otherwise an air stone is just the diffuser you plug into the pipe of air pump to dissolve into small bubbles.

oh, i meant those airstone connect to a hose to an air pump..what is the reason to do that?

eh, there's a guy selling bee, yellow, blue shrimps, you think my tank can keep them alive? I mean, i will go back and check parameters first before committing..

Bro, i think you should just reset your set up and cycle tank again. Do it with all the proper water conditioners added. Shrimps dying like this means there are something wrong with water, things that we cant see with our eyes. 1ft might be too hard to control parameters, a small change in water level might have a high impact on the water parameters. Just my opinion, do be wary of adding mineral plus every top up, as i realise that you mentioned your just topping up evaporated water. Gh mignt end up to be too high, causing shrimps to have problem molting. Do take note. Happy shrimping!

Thanks, I think you folks are probably right. And it seems that resetting and cycling is the way to go since there is no more shrimps.

There are many people who use different methods of cycling tank, even amount of water changes to be done also. Do a search on the net might help you get a better understanding.
Since theres no more livestocks left, just empty the content and give your items a wash just incase there're pests in it, especially the soil. If space isn't an issue, you might want to consider a 2 ft, really makes things alot easier.

Theres currently a thread in the inverts section where they are currently discussing about cycling of tank too, you might want to check it out too! Cheers bro!

    Hi
Maybe you can put some mineral rock in your tank which can buy at GC .
It increase my GH from 6-7 with just 1 pcs for my 2 ft tank .
    4 pcs is like $36 .
