    Hi Guys,

    Currenly I am still using my leftover KNO3 which will run out soon. I have a 5 Foot tank which I am doing 3 teaspoonfull of KNO3 and 2.5 teaspoonful of KH2PO4 3 times per week. So if I am to replace the KNO3 with CaNO3 how should the dosage be different?

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: CaNO3 + KH2PO4

    I am planning to use EI method and have been doing some reading recently. I have ordered Ca(NO3)2, KH2PO4 and K2SO4, waiting for pick up.

    I have a 4ft * 1.5ft * 1.5ft tank, 250L.
    Using the calculation from http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/f...fertilator.php for a week dosage, i need the following amount:

    Ca(NO3)2 = 10g
    KH2PO4 = 1g
    K2SO4 = 10g

    With the above dosage i will be getting:
    NO3 = 21ppm
    PO4 = 2.79ppm
    K = 19.1ppm
    Ca = 6.79ppm

    In order to ensure that the plants gets enough, i plan to divide and dose everyday.

    I aint sure whether i had done it correctly as i have not experiment it before.
    Since you have been using the EI method, can you share your experience

    Re: CaNO3 + KH2PO4

    I have been using KNO3 with much success. Ever since I started EI method, I have never have problems with algae etc. EI is very forgiving, even overdose is ok. Just remember that EI is basically dosing as much as the plants need, and when the plants are healthy, they will use all the nutrients and algae can't grow.
    Two things to remember.

    1. Have enough light and CO2 and fertilizers.
    2. Start to plant all the plants you want. If you plant a small area at a time, you will give algae a chance to strive.

    Can I know where you ordered your Ca NO3? Thanks.

    Re: CaNO3 + KH2PO4

    I just got started this Monday after getting my supplies during the weekends. I'm trying to get the HG n Glosso to grow but i dont know why they are not doing very well. Will monitor their progress for the next couple of days and if they are still not doing well then i will increase dose.

    Got a small outbreak on BBA on the rocks and BGA on the gravel, moss, HG and Glosso. I'm using 2 filters and have shifted one of the outlet to the other side of the tank so currently i have one outlet each at both width. Hopefully that will improve water circulation and cover those dead spots.

    I ordered mine from http://www.ecocityhydroponics.com/ , self collect from The Warren beside CCK MRT station.

    CO2 : 2-3bps (Tried to increase to more then 3bps and i notice that my fishes are having problem)
    PH : 6.6 - 6.8
    KH : 2 (might be due to the low CO2)
    GH : 6-7

    Lights : 4 x 55w PL (just replace the tubes 3 weeks ago)
    Usage: 12-14hrs (will reduce it to 8-10hrs instead from tomorrow onwards)

    Oh ya this thread was not started by me. Sorry shrimppaste.

    Anyhow my algae problem has been "solved" because the tank was leaking when i got home last night and i had removed every single living object (took me more then an hour to get all 272 inhabitants out to another tank ). Will hunt for a replacement set and start aaaaall over again.

    Re: CaNO3 + KH2PO4

    That could be your problem right there. You started tank on Monday and you have 272 inhabitants? You need at least 1 month's cycle time.

    Re: CaNO3 + KH2PO4

    Haha I started the setup somewhere in end of July, let it run for about 2 weeks without any fish. I started off by adding algae cleaning crews first follow by slowly adding in other inhabitants a week later.
    I started using EI method in order to achieve better plant growth only last Monday. Previously I was only dosing JBL Ferropol.
    Are you saying that I need to go fishless for a month using EI method before adding the fish?

    No, its a standard cycling time nothing to do with EI. If your tank already cycled, you do not need to cycle another time just because switch to EI

    Re: CaNO3 + KH2PO4

    No. I dilute it in 1 liter of water and use around 10ml at the time. I put inside those pump bottle and just press few pump at a time. Last me quite long time.

    You can visit my blog for the dosing regime. I also have fert calculator at my blog.

    Re: CaNO3 + KH2PO4

    Daiso 1liter bottle is about 3ml per pump. ADA bottle is about 1ml per pump.

    I seperate each chemical, have more control that way.

    Not necessary lah, you can combine together, I just preferred more control.
