    Hi,
I just setup a new planted tank using GEX soil. Since the soil is still new, I was thinking that it will still be fertile enough for my rooted plant. I am tempted to start dosing but was afraid that too much fert will cause algae problem.

    Tank : 4 Ft
    Lighting : 4 x 55 W T5 lights. (7am - 11am and 7pm to 11pm)
CO2 : Currently 2BPS (Will be getting a drop checker)
The tank was setup 24 Days ago.

There is already some algae issue that I am controlling now.
So seeking some expert advise on when should I start my Fert regime

fert dosing does not cause algae, unless you dose ammonia . GEX is not as fertile as ADA soil, you will need to dose liquid fert sooner.

Your CO2 is not enough, 2bps is what I inject into my 2ft tank . How do you inject your CO2? diffuser, inline diffuser, reactor, etc?

How is your plants? does it grow healthy or rotting? Focus on growing healthy plants and you algae issue with solved by it self, well you still need algae cleaner to consume it first though

Please do some reading on EI (Estimate Index), its good dosing regime to start with.

I am using inline diffuser. After noticing Algae growth, I am also dosing EasyCarbo liquid CO2 to boost up the CO2 level. WIll be getting a drop checker to mointor my CO2 level.

As for the plants, some started rotting at first but they are showing signs of recovery. Some of the stem plant are browning, I gave them a good trim and hopfully encourage new growth.
Just upgraded from a 2FT planted to a 4FT planted. All new learning experience for me now.

Attached is the picture of the tank now. Hopefull the stem plants at the back will cover the piping when they grow tall enough.
