Oh oh that changes everything then...
Just a brief read thru
1. remove the ramshorn snails if they start lay eggs as there is no predator and plenty of algae on plants, once they lay eggs they do non stop all around your tanks and plants
2. If you wan carpet grass i will suggest marimo block. or you can DIY
I saw another version @ C328 rather cute , looks like mini frogbits plant like 4mm tall , comes in a rect piece with just roots below. it doesnt float, suppose to be rooted to soil. its light green, about $4. Anyone can ID it ?
3. As you use driftwood, if there are any new. buy 1 prawn to test 1st..
4. Consider more algae eater for your tank in case you get algae bloom again like yamato
5. Some moss dont do good in warm water , 28 deg
marimo and flame i know will do well
xmas moss i think it died on me..
Hey Marimo
Thanks for the info.
I've removed both adult ramshorn as I've seen mini ones, I've removed the offsprings too.
As for plants, I think I'm leaving it as it is now. Will definitely consider a Yamato as algae cleaner as I don't intend to get fishes.
So far, plants seem alright with my fan cooled tank, I've set fan and light to be on from 1300 - 2100hrs each day. Topping up with distilled water to counter evaporation. About 0.75L par day.
Frogbits not doing well and I understand that's a good sign, correct?
End of month, I will intro some hardy shrimps in, like FR or cherries.
Hope all will be well.
i managed to search the plant i saw
its call dwarf baby tears, go search google, they multiply and create a aquascape
mini ranshorn? dont think there's one? just malnutrition ones? haha
Beware of distill water
Test the PH level
I tested and its 6.0
Frogbits not easy to die leh . I think the enviroment to be cooler or the light is scorching the plant
cherry, sakura, fire red all same species, just buy the one that you intend to rear.
remember to acclimation
within 1 hr die -> pesticide
within 24 hour die -> fertilizer
within 48 hour die -> boredom
Ok, will go search baby dwarf tears.
Those are babies that I removed, not mal- nutrition.
Distilled water, using the NTUC one that forumers here recommend and tested. But I planned to aged water treated with seachem prime to top up and do water change.
Planned to keep only those shrimps mentioned above, perhaps a mixture of them and yes, will acclimate them via drip method, hose and valve all ready.
Not quite understand this...
within 1 hr die -> pesticide
within 24 hour die -> fertilizer
within 48 hour die
Marimo, baby dwarf tears are nice...besides C328, anywhere else sells this?
Ok, i think baby dwarf tears is a no no for me...i understand they are also call HC...and my low tech will not be able to grow them well...
Help... Algae growth in my cycling tank... Should I reduce my exposure of lighting? Or just scrap it off?
11W PL for 8 hours...
algae bloom again?
btw i didnt had plants during cycling
because cycling doesnt need constant light
I think your tank is beside the window? I see curtain
Indirect sunlight beside the window i think is still sufficient for algae
algae grow if there are a lot of nutrients , and it should be absorb by the plants in your tank already. I guess your driftwood has been soaked in fertilizer at the LFS and you did not quarantine them .
you cant change water now because you will screw the cycling
i think you can opt for blackout for few days and not on the light
Plants can survive but plankton cant
Hi marimo, tank is not really beside window, it's actually in a dark corner. Curtain is for sliding doors but tank is beside a wall.
Perhaps you're right about wood, one piece is from old tank and the other is new from LFS.
I will heed your advice, blackout for a few days. Will scrub off algae with filter sponge tomorrow.
Plankton is algae?
Should I continue with my daily dosage of 2 drops of BW Lush?
Or should I introduce 2 Yamato into tank, hee, got excuse to buy shrimp.

no wonder , u add BW lush, thats the nutrients and light = algae
not the LFS driftwood
can u dont do so many things at one time during cycling
i mean when u add the shrimp , they die really fast from chemical poisoning can be pesticideNot quite understand this...
within 1 hr die -> pesticide
within 24 hour die -> fertilizer
within 48 hour die
they die slower like suffering may be toxicated slowly by copper in fertilizer
48 hours .. just joking la
Ok ok, I stop the lush... And reduce light exposure?
by introducing yamato now is the same as fish cycling
yamato will be damaged by ammonia and nitrite
and yamato will pee and poo adding to the bio load during cycling
So not a good idea
so scrub away algae, blackout and stop add lush for many days
if you worry about the plants, i suggest you to put in another pail, container and provide minimum of light
Ok, will do that. Then I see how plants react. Already my algae ball looked a bit brown,
Then how often shall I add lush, I add as prescribed. Unless with shrimps, the tank reacts differently?
to add by right your tank should be ending cycling soon
you started on 3rd , now is 20th
You using BT-9 some more, it speeds up fast
GC said they did it in 3 days
Cycling speeds up with warmer water, higher ph, low light(i still cannot confirm on light saying bacteria do not need light)
Care to share your water parameters check again?
Have you managed to catch the nitrite spike?
Er.. Have not check water parameters. And sorry, what's catching the nitrite spike?
Then maybe I should not on the fan to lower the water temp too.
So far, I've top up with distilled water and did 1 water changed with aged treated seachem prime water. During the WC, I added BT9 again.
You think my tank is ready? But best way to check is to test parameters right? Shall do that tomorrow.

bro, reduce lighting for now. You can adopt 4 hour on, 2 hour off, and 4 hour on again. Plants can take the 2 hour break in period but the algae cannot handle such thing. hope it helps. Other than that, you can add more floating plants to reduce all that nutrient in the tank
Advice from boss Felix
Hmmmm... That's sounds like a plan. So basically without shrimps, I do not need the fan on as well right?
