    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has ever bought fauna from online shops / auction sites based overseas and gotten them to ship it over. I was wondering if there were any legality issues (AVA website only really talks about hand-carrying, unless I mis-read).

Also, what mode of shipping would have to be used..?

    Thanks!

    Re: Buying Fauna from Overseas

    Hi vannel,

The regulations of AVA states clearly that a person may import a total of not more than 30 fishes in water not exceeding 3L or 5kg for a mixture of different ornamental fish species. It is therefore, not illegal to import or hand-carry fishes into Singapore because it's not practical for an amateur aquarist to apply a license to bring 2-3 fishes into the country.

Unfortunately, it's not the AVA regulations that matters. I think there's a rule for most courier services that they will refuse any parcel containing live animals. These are labelled as "perishables". I think it's got something against their policy. If you are worried, you can try to ask any LFS (maybe C328?) for a transhipper who brings in livestocks at a regular basis.

Anyway, many have done it, so I think it's generally ok.

    regards,
    Shi Xuan
