Very likely to be the ADA soil. Just put a handful of coral chips into your filter and you should be fine.

Describe your problem :
If you have probably noticed, the main grouse of the tank is it's low ph. I have been trying to raise it the vicinity of 6.8 and kh to 4dkh with addition of baking soda. I have been adding half a teaspoon of the soda daily to the tank over the past 5 days. But the readings still give me the same results. I am using the ph and kh test kits from Sera.
Does it have anything to do with the ADA soil as the instructions indicate that the soil will bring down ph? Or should i bag a handful of coral chips and hang it in the tank? Hope to have some advice from bros here. Thanks.

I have ADA soil as well in my 3x1.5x1.5 ft tank, and i find that adding two teaspoons of baking soda a week helps (bring KH from 0-1 to 3-4). Before, pH was so low that no snails could survive.
I wonder what qualities/elements the ada soil possess as to be able to bring down the ph of water? Do enlighten me further if any bros know more.... [:]
I intend to use ada aquasoil amazonia for my new 3x1.5x2 feet setup.
I understand that there are other kind of ada soil like malayan. So does all the ada soil bring down the pH?
dunno if all the types of ada aquasoil will bring down the ph...but at least my amazonia did. I checked with Chan of NA and he confirmed my tank's lowered ph to be caused by the soil. Mebbe peat extracts are present in ada's soil which causes the acidity?
hm.. can anyone confirm whether other types will lower the pH too?
