TB no cure.... nerf the infected fish before it spread to others.
My Bosemani rainbow has sores like the below pic and its been there for weeks already. I tried salt treatment but its not helping. In fact, another of my Bosemani rainbow is starting to develope the same sores.
Is it possible to cure the fish? Was recommended 'yellow powder' and melafix.
What is this 'yellow powder' and where can I get it from? Is it expensive?
Thanks

Hi Mdm Budak,
The clinical signs shown are not really typical of a Mycobacterium marinum infection.
Such ulcerative lesions as shown in the pic may have other bacterial or even protozoal causes. It will really be hard to ascertain what is actually the organism without doing the skin scrap.
As for Bosemani rainbow, they're terribly infamous for developing such ulcerative lesions on their body, and they'll appear to be well! Most of the time, given good nutrition and good water quality, they'll heal up by themselves.
One food for thought: could it be an auto-immune disease, as some researchers have seem indicate that lateral line diseases could have such an etiology???
The Japanses yellow powder, I'd suspect, contains chemotherapeutics such as nifurpurinol, which is antibacterial and anti-protozoal to a certain extend.
Well, you can give it a try, and at the very least, help prevent secondary infection of the lesions.

Hello hobbit6003,
You are right, the fish with the sore is eating well and active.
I have placed both Bosemani in a 1ft tank with some yellow powder added. Hope the sores will heal soon.
One quick note about melafix, it does nothing but smells good.
Cheers

I noticed some improvements and the sore is not as raw anymore.
If I'm not wrong, melafix is used after treatment to aid the healing process.
