Re: Sharing the ottos that i have :)

hi need some consultation regarding preparing food for the otos, boil cucumber - how long? i tried for 3 minutes but i still find it too hard for them. however i scared that if too soft will dirty water easily as well. do advise me from your expirences thanks!

another thing is that i do drop in a few frozen bloodworms for them to consume, having read that they are not entirely herbivorous, but till now they express little interest in them. the food currently i fed them are boil cucumber, mosura excel, algae wafers and left a few katapang leaves in it.

    thanks in advance

Cut the cucumber in 1cm and soak in the slightly hot water for 1min good enough.

Thanks thanks. Read previous threads that they are not entirely herbivores, but will they take frozen bloodworms?

They might. And they might also choke to death from eating bloodworms. Just a warning

Around the same parameter with my prls. Till date no casualty. Haha. They eat the same things with crs so I'm able to prepare both foods together. Hahaha

    Hi barmby:

I definitely have scanned through all the relevant articles regarding orange zebra otos before attempting. Haha. I did not know they need meat based food as well until I read the post back in 2006 about them.

I ordered 50 of them, assuming their doa rate is high.(I stated shipment from s.a, in fact that they are 'shipment mailed' haha) So that would likely get me around 20~30 pieces. However, I manage to get zero casualty till now, shall monitor them closely for at least one month. And I'll reduce the amount I want to keep. That's 20~30 pieces. I do think that they share the similar water parameters as crs. As mentioned in the old post, they are better with slightly acidic waters.
Diet wise currently they are receiving boiled cucumber, spinach, algae wafers, bloodworms(greatly reduced) and crs food with no problem.
Colour wise have been shown and the black stripes are more visible.

One more question I would like to ask barmby, are they similar with zebra ottos, when they manage to pull through the first month or so, highly likely they will live long? Thanks!

I have no luck with zebra otto. however, it doesn't mean that you cannot succeed. I guess they are better off in species tank.
