japnese hairgrass will look shorter than normal hairglass and if they grow well in high lighted condition, it will curve down
I know it sounds dumb .. thats what the LFS told me when i ask whats the difference between the $2 and $3 per pot hairgrass, that what he explain to me.
$2 is the vertical growing
$3 is the sideway growing
what i know is the vertical growing , just trim the root and plant
the runner trim the top part and roots and give sufficient light and CO2 and it will grow side ways.

There are 4 hairgrass That I knew of
1. Eleocharis parvula (dwarf hairgrass) -> can grow up to 15cm depending on environment
2. Eleocharis sp (Japan hairgrass) -> curve leaf
3. Eleocharis acicularis -> grow long up to 30cm depending on environment
4. Eleocharis vivipara -> grow very long with plantlet at its tips
Normally at LFS, the normal hairgrass is around $2 and Japanese hairgrass is around $3
ya that what i thought so too
the more expensive may be japan hairgrass thats curves down and stays low
the other is dwarf hairgrass which grow erect
however at the LFS they look exactly the same as they have trim the top part and no curve blades either...
That the jap hairgrass emerse leaf which is straight.
nope, I mean cm. It depend on your nutrient level. If you follow EI dossing then your plants will be very big one because unlimited nutrient. In limited nutrient level, you wont be able to differentiate between Eleocharis parvula and Eleocharis acicularis
It slow down but cant really tell because I normally plant densely from beginning.
