Can try adding coral chip to increase the PH.
Hi,
I stay in Bukit Panjang, the frsh water comes from the tap measured @ 6.0PH. But it seems that about 3 months ago, my PH starts to drop over the week !!
I change my waters once a week but till the end of the week the its 4.5PH
Any suggestion what happened ? or can someone advise what can I do to matain the PH at 6 or 6.5 ?...used to be at this region until of late. Tank is about 1 year old...

Can try adding coral chip to increase the PH.
Corydoras: 2 x adolfoi, 1 x agassizii, 5 x albino aeneus, 3 x arcuatus, 4 x atropersonatus, 3 x axelrodi, 6 x axelrodi variante B, 4 x caudimaculatus, 5 x duplicareus, 8 x goldlines, 3 x kanei, 3 x loretoensis, 6 x melini, 4 x panda, 6 x schwartzi, 3 x similis, 4 x sterbai, 4 x surinamensis, 5 x trilineatus, 4 x tukano & 3 x zygatus
RIP 1 x adolfoi, 1 x albino aeneus & 2 x panda
Can this be what it's known as 'pH crash'?
It happened to a couple of my tanks recently and I was told to stablise the kH.
Another way would be to use coral chips...

P-L-E-C-O-R-Y=M-A-N-I-A!!! YEAH!
FLORENCE, capital of the region of Tuscany, has a population of around half a million inhabitants, spreads on the banks of the Arno, between the Adriatic and the Tyrrhenian seas, almost in the middle of the Italian peninsula. It is a city which bustles with industry and craft, commerce and culture, art and science.

I'm staying in B.Panjang too. I've so far not tested my tap water cos it's not really a concern to me. Wat you may want to check is you tank pH and kH.
Check your kh. If it is zero, the ph might go down below 6 and swing wildly. Add a handful of coral chips in your filter to maintain the kh and buffer the ph.
... always look at the bright side of life
I seriously doubt the pH reading. You better re-confirm your pH test kit or re-calibrate your pH probe.----------------

The tap water is usually kept in the region of pH 8.0 by driving out all CO2. This is to prevent pipe corrosions. It may go as low as near pH 7.0, but rarely <pH 7.0.

hi unicorn, yours is a 6 foot, discus, planted tank right?
Have you added any medication for your discus lately? Any rocks, driftwood etc added?
Hi Guys,
Hi Kingfisher & Coryfav - Thanks for the advise. Another advise I've got from my regular LFS is that the limestone I'm using for my filteration are not suitable for local use ie; Seachem..therefore..he advises that I use the cheaper kind. Anyway, I'll heed both advise and see how.. Thanks..
Kingfisher, just link to the website http://www.plantedtank.net/forum and you'll be able to read the perimeters on my tank. The thread is uni's Discus Tank.
Hi Sherwood & Joe - Yes ! tested the water with Danneral testing papers and it reads like zero according to the table. Will certainly try the coral chips as Kingfisher, Coryfav and you guys advised.
Hi bclee - Yes my PH meter is calibrated numerous time prior to the former mail. Alas ...and it still indicates 6.0PH when the H2O comes out from the tap. That is the reason why I've stated the place where I'm residing....
Hi Bigjohnstud [:0] - Yea, a 6 footer by 26inches by 23 inches. Aaaaa... I add medication into the tank every week after I've change half the water volume...
Cheers
Ohh, there is driftwood ....big pieces of them...but no rocks.... is there something I might have missed ?
Cheers
kH showing zero? Suggest you do a kH increase maybe with some baking soda. Please be reminded not to increase by too much at one go. The max should be 2dkH per 24 hours. Try getting it to 4dkH, this should buffer your pH.
Hi Every1,
Well, I've added a standard pack of coral chips into the tank and it works real fine now !!
In less than an hour, my PH raised from 4.9 to 6.2 !!! real effective !! The fish are fine...don't seems to suffer from PH shock though ....
Cheers and thanks guys....and gals ? ..
