    Hi Guys,
I am currently having green water and so I went and bought a UV filter.
My question is, I have heard pple say that UV filter would oxidise the fertilisers?
So, would it be advisable to take the filter away once water clears?
The other question is, how long should I keep the filter on for to make sure that the green water is totally cleared. Lastly, Once green water is cleared, what are the chances of getting it again? How should I prevent it from coming back? I know it's caused by too much nutrient. Is it too much nitrate, Potassium, or trace elements? And how should I measure them and how to determine if it's too much?
    Thanks![]

Nutrients in the fertilisers are chelated to prevent oxidation/precipitation. UV will break down the chelation and the nutrients are then easily oxidised or precipitated.

Green water is usually caused by NH3 from rotting stuff in your tank. Be sure to clear your filter and remove as much deritus from your tank as possible. Avoid overfeeding.

You can probably remove the UV after 3-4 days depending of the actual clarity of the water. Do a big water change afterwards. Keep a proper fertiliser dosage and CO2 level. That should keep the GW away.

Just to add, remember to clean your filters once the green water clears up. If the filter isn't clean up, the dead algae will start decomposing inside your filter and cause water problems
