Those are indeed the Penguin Tetra, Thayeria boehlkei. The difference is, those that you own are the deformed version aka Balloon Penguin Tetra.

As title suggests, what I have seem to be most closely resembling penguin tetras. I looked up the penguin pics, and all have the penguins with elongated bodies. Mine are more like goldfish bodies LOL. Got them from Aquastar, could it be they are crossbreeds?
the bold horizontal line runs the entire length of the body and ends at the lower part of the tail. That part is exactly like a penguin tetra. However, every other part of the fish i have doesnt look like the penguin pics i see.

Not sure what I'm going to do with the balloon penguins now.
Since you already have them, just keep them. If you feel they are unsightly, sell them or give them away to someone else who will want them.

yea they are,
I got the ballooned version too from aquastar ...they are swimming side by side with my pristellas
