    Hi all

Some of my tetras got the tiny white spot diease. It had already spread to some of my other fishes.

I heard that small fishes cannot use medication and it may even kill my plants.
What can i do to solve this problem?

Which of the following could be the possible cause.
    1) Just change the filter media after about half a year.
    2) Add around ten other fishes to my tank hence stressing my tetras. (my tank is not too overcrowding)
    3) Feed my fish expired fish food for the past 2-3 months.

    Thks.

hi chua, white spots could be due to stress level in the fish or it could be introduced by those new fish you added. I've tried Interpet's white spot med even salt on my tetras are they're fine (it happened 6 months ago and they're still alive and swimming today). I've heard some people has raised their tank temp to combat white spot to speed up the process. dose the med as indicated and persist for 1 - 2 weeks, should be fine after that.

    Hi Chua,
The same happened to my cardinals 1 week ago and this is what I did to treat them:
    1) Add 3 tablespoons of aquatic salt (I have a 4 ft planted tank)
    2) Add "white spots away" from Ocean Free (some bros here do not recommend this treatment but somehow it works for me)
    3) Don't feed the fishes for 2 days (according to Mr Gan of Gan Aquarium. I think most of you would have heard of him)

Most white spots in my cardinals disappeared after the 3rd day and I continued feeding. Thereafter change water and carry on as usual.

I have 4 discus in the same tank but I did not quarantine the infected cardinals when I carried out this treatment.

    Hope this helps...

    Okay now,
I too have a variety spieces of Tetras: Bule/Green Cardinal, Emperor, Black. Haven't got casualty for tetras since March this year. (my 30cm experimental tank - retired already)

My water are treated with Nutrafin Aqua Plus, very good water stabilizer. Water change was abt 3 days average to 30% change.

Ocean Free White Spot killer are generally quite weak. I have them too, I always put small amt during water change to ensure safety as a kiasu method.

    My recommedation to you:
    1. Remove any carbon filter. (MUST DO THIS)
    2. Change ur filter if u haven't done so or at least wash it clean. Idea is to clean the entire filter unit.
    3. Find Up brand ICK Cure. This is quite strong against white spot (ichtyophtirius and lymphocystis) and won't harm the plants according to my experience, got it at C328.

    Hi all,

I had won the combat with white spot diease.
And this is how i did it.
Add around 1 tbsp per 20gal of aquarium salt to the tank.
This routine is carried out twice per week after around 40% water chsnge.
Initally, i use food salt and there is not much improvement but after changing to aquarium salt, the result is much better.
Unfortunately, there are still some fishes that cannot be saved.
And it is listed as follow
    Cardinal tetra - 8-10 desd
    oto - 2 dead
pencil fish - completely immune to white spot
    (not affected by the dieases)
    red platey - 0 dead
(one or two tiny white spot on one of my platey, cure halfway through the process)
The above information cannot be used as a gauge for the hardyness of different species of fish. It can only be used as a reference.

    Thks for all your time.

Dosage of salt should be 1tbsp per 5 gallons of tank water if my memory serves me right.

Remember i am using a teaspoon and not a tablespoon.

Those victims to white spot diease please be careful.
I am not too sure if overdosage got any undesirable effect on the fishes.
