    Hi All experts out there,

I need some help. I have some Cryptocoryne Willisii in the centre of the tank. Since its slow growing, it looks barren to have them alone. I was wondering if I could have a short plant covering the area that is bare while the cryptocoryne grows above it. And also, any good short plant to be planted infront of it.

Some plants surrounding the cryptocoryne willisii are:
    - Stargrass
    - Micranthemum Micranthemoides
    - Proserpinaca Palvstris (that is if I can get some)
    - Micranthemum Umbrosum

Another Plant that needs something under it is Nymphaea Lotus "Green" (spotted)
This plant is great, however, I have nothing small to grow around it so that it looks good.

    All constructive suggestions are welcome.
    Cheerio,

Thanks Juggler, but I was hoping someone would give me an idea what would be a nice plant to give contrast to those plants I mentioned.

since most of the plants you listed is green, then your choice will be a contrasting reddish plant.. try E. stellata, rotala macrandra, rotala indica or gratiola sp.,

Oops.. Looks like I didn't make myself clear. Sorry for all the confusion.

I do have some red plants in the tank and some pending ones (still looking out for them), they are:
    1. Ludwigia Reopen
    2. Alternanthera reineckii
    3. Hygrophila Polysperma "Rosa Nervis" (Requesting for them)
    4. Proserpinaca Palvstris (if I get them)

However, there are spaces between Cryptocoryne willisii and below the Nymphaea Lotus which make it looks a little bare. Trying to find some plants to fill the gaps without overpowering the plants. I'll try to post the design of the tank if possible when I get them drawn.

This little project of mine is a rework of the 4ft tank that I am currently having. A new concept for a new year. So please help me. Pictures will be posted to keep you guys inform of the progress when I can lay my hands on a camera. Thanks in advance.

Where are these plants placed? I'm imagining that they'll be somewhere mid-back ground, so you want something taller than foreground and can fill space? Hopefully they don't overpower the plant they're supposed to frame? I think some mid to darker coloured plants would do nicely.

    - Anubias barteri var. nana
    - dwarf hairgrass
    - Lobelia cardinalis 'Small form'
    - small rocks covered with moss

do you have a picture of your set up now? We could chip in better with that.

There isnt a need to squeeze very inch of the ground with plants. So if its just a small area as you mentioned, why not give them some space to develop. Otherwise, try cryptocoryne sp under the green lily.

HC a bit too small and compact IMO. Maybe can consider marsilea crenata, it grows pretty slow so doesn't need much maintenance like glosso.

Where do you stay? I can pop by and snap a few pics with my digicam if it's not too far from AMK.

    Victri,

Hmm.. marsilea crenata seems to be quite difficult and demanding plant to me. plus it needs to be above water sometimes right? And pretty tall as well. Oh nm. perhaps I can seek your opinion when I meet you this weekend. Thanks Victri

    Simon,

Wouldn't blyxa japonica be too tall to be in the midst of crytocoryne willisii?

Marsilea is not demanding at all. I'm using them as fillers (under my crypts) in my low-light tank. Then again, I am fortunate enough to have obtained the submersed form from a fellow hobbyist. []

thought the plant is supposed to be in between the crytocoryne willisii and lotus? if so, then should not pose a problem, but then again... LOL... ok, remove the blxya j. suggestion

Same for me. They do well both under high and low light. If you want, I can pass you a bit to try. I don't have much though.

    Victri,

No worries, leave them in your tank at the moment... let my tank settle down first after this sat's revamp before I attempt to get them from you. Or perhaps someone might come up with a good idea what I am talking when I get the pictures posted... hahaha... Thanks alot mate. You helped me alot.

    Hello All,

Finally got a photo. I didn't clean the glass well enough therefore there is a little fog. Anyway, all constructive comments are welcome.

Tank made possible with donation from:
    - Victri (Vesicularia Dubyana, Marsilea Crenata, Elatine Triandra)
    - TanVincent (Lobelia Cardinalis, Hygrophilia polysperma (Sunset Hygro))

Nice start! Will like to see how it matures as there's almost no background plants.

One comment - the Lobelia may grow as tall as the Crypts behind. Can suggest placing the Crypts under the shade of the Nuphar and Lotus. Or just observe first.
