Hmm...2 inches then. I asked because I think the thinness of my substrate caused me to have difficulty planting the glosso, i.e. even though I'm using curved tip pincers, there's barely enough room for me to pull down the glosso & even lesser room to twist the tip of the pincer outwards to release the glosso's roots. Because I need to "un-pinch" to release the glosso's roots, & the substrate is so shallow, the whole chuck of substrate surrounding the glosso's upper part is also shaken when I'm "un-pinching" the pincer to release its roots.
I'm using Old Sea Mud Powder, then a layer of GEX Shrimp Soil, then a layer a ADA New Amazonia AquaSoil Power-type. No additives. As my glosso ain't planted very deeply, a lot of new roots that are sprouted are reaching down into the soil, which is quite unsightly.
Is your pinsette big? Maybe its easier to use the thin one? I'm using this, eBay also got much cheaper ones.

Maybe can try topping up with some powder soil on top of those glosso that aren't planted very deeply?

Tis is awesome...
Hi Thread Starter, very nice & impressive set up you have there
In fact, i am a newbie to aquascaping & your scape has given me the inspiration to create something similar . And i will be scrolling through your journal in the coming days to gather more tips.
I have intended to use the Shiruba XB303 as primary filtration too. Do you set it up as mechanical, biological or chemical fitration?
What filtration materials do you use?
i love this tank!
excellent pictures too
