Hi, just wanted to check with everyone here. What other fishes are good for these sort of tank? I was thinking of Pleco, Farowella, Hachet and Pencil Fish. Can I put in any catfish? I read that these fishes are also native to the Amazon Basin. How about Pacu since there is no Pirhanas available.

i do not think pacus will be a good idea.
They can grow fast and get real big.
They can wreck havoc with plants.

if you want any predators, i suggest getting exodons. As bloodythirsty as piranhas, maybe more aggressive, and will not get too big. Lastly, they can be found in LFS.

plecos are catfish lor! can also consider cory but they're not from the same region of the river I think. all the tetras can be considered, other than the african ones.

Think farowella is also a catfish (twig catfish). Glass catfish can also be considered.

It's OK if you are not seriously starting a biotope. Your current choice of plants is OK. Check out the below threads/links for biotope tanks.

Echinodorus species can get quite big with rather strong rooting capability. Will be more appropriate for amazonian settings.

farlowella is indeed a catfish and from south america, but the glass catfish (which one do you mean?) are either asian or african, I'm not aware of a glass catfish from the amazon.

as for "giant catfish", again which one exactly? the commonly known ones are all asian. However plecos are south american.
