    Re: Hi from Denmark

Welcome to AQ Kim, good to meet another Killie-nut.

My primary interest is in SAAs, with some assorted others. You have A. hera, which is my favourite Aphyosemion, alas one that I could not get in as eggs safely into Singapore. Tried a few times with a breeder in France but shipping time of around 10-12 days is very bad for Non-Annual eggs when the seller did not pack them very well for the trip.

    Re: Hi from Denmark

    A. hera is a very nice species ...sadly I lost my female earlier this year and all my fry seems to be male so I have some small females from another breeder. Will see if I can get at better sexratio in the future.

I tried some annuals (both Austrolebias and Nothobranchius) but I found out that I didn't find them very interesting although they were very pretty.

    Hi Kim,

Yes A. hera is an amazing species. You must be K**m on Aquabid. Perhaps next time I can try with your A. hera eggs. A friend in Denmark once sent me annual eggs via post and it took around 1 week to arrive, which was very fast compared to France.

    Yes, I'm kimm om AB

Thanks edw7636. Yes, I am not good at saying "no" to a species I don't have so it can get kind of crowded in my tanks sometimes. Just moved to a new house earlier this year and cut back 45 tanks at the same time so at the moment my 80 remaining tanks are quite heavy with fish. I am going to thin out when I have bred some of the more common ones.

    Hi Kim,

Glad to see you around here at last. I guess you must have been the same kim I saw on the Endler-usa forum & your list of livebearer is as uncommon in Singapore as it is for the rest of your fish species. Xiphophorus milleri is a nice livebearer which I hope to keep someday. What happened to your Micropoecilia parae melanzona? The only livebearer I'm keeping now is Xiphophorus cortezi Rio Vinasco.

I'm currently keeping mostly annuals but have particular interest in the Fundulopanchax & Rivulus genus. Perhaps, it would be a great opportunity to acquire some eggs from you in the future.

    Best regards,
    Shi Xuan

    Yep, that would be me

I tried with M. parae a few times but always with same result; a few brood of fry right from the start and then both parents and youngsters disappeared gradually over the next couple of months. I tried various waterparamters but it seems not to matter. Everyone else I've talked to over here get the same result.

    X. milleri are really nice. Fairly common with livebearer people over here. We have a club called Poecilia Scandinavia (www.poecilia.org) which specializes in natural forms of livebeareres and work together with universities like the one in Morelia, Mexico.

    Egg-exchange would be possible

    Re: Hi from Denmark

    Hi,

I didn't get as much problems with the water parameters but it could have been the source where I acquired them, most probably farm-bred fishes, which could be traced back to Glasser aquarium, Germany. I received 2 pairs of M.parae melanzona 'red' early this year & their mature rate is quite low, irregardless of the high ambient temperature of Singapore's tropical climate, (27-31°C). The brood size is very small in my case. In any way, I'd preferred keeping swordtails & got them replaced with X.cortezi when I've more spare time later this year.

As of now, I have a small school of X.cortezi & received an average brood of only 2-3 fry monthly. I'm thinking of transferring them to a bigger tub outdoors though. If tank space allows, I would seriously consider X.multilineatus or X.nigrensis, these are the most pretty pygmy swordtails I have seen so far.

    Best regards,
    Shi Xuan

I only have a heater in one or two tanks that need to be 27-30 degrees celcius. The rest are heated by the air in the room. There's a radiator that I adjust so the tanks at the floor are around 20 degrees and the top tanks are around 24-25. That way I can keep a wide range of Corys from all over South America

    Kim,

I left out the last Misc fish, the small & colorful yet exclusive catfish, Centromochlus perugiae. This is my favorite catfish & I finally got a chance to stumble upon them in my LFS. They arrived in limited numbers but expensive, so I only got one, which happens to be a male. I guess they are easy to breed, I suppose, but will be keeping the lone male in my community tank for the time being until I can find a suitable mate for him. I'm quite happy though!

    Re: Hi from Denmark

They are very funny fish. I haven't bred mine yet, but know some people who did them a few years back. A lot of PVC-pipes and live food should be enough.

My fish are partially fish I caught myself in Peru in 2008 and some shop-bought ones.

    Re: Hi from Denmark

Alas, I couldn't see the male anymore the moment I popped him into my main tank, it's hiding in my anubias-tied driftwood, I guess. It's a nocturnal animal so I don't expect it to be as "showy" as it's tankmates but it will definitely be interesting to catch an exclusive sight of it whenever it emerge from it's hiding place.

I'm still thinking of getting a female for this fella, since this fish is hard to come by & only show up in LFS once in a blue moon, so it's worth attempting to spawn them.

    Hi Kim M,
I have heard that someone in Denmark has bred a longfin super red ancistrus. Do you have any knowledge of this?
    Thanks, Lizzj
