Nice and simple, i'd suggest small southeast asian fishes like boraras brigittae, maculatus, danio magaritatus or sundadanio axelrodi. They may not school very well though.
hi all,
had just rescaped my 1feet tank to the following. (stone will be removed)
(really liked http://theaquaticgazette.com/2011/10...pe-for-discus/)
the tank is now under cycling and am wondering if hobbyist here can suggest the type of schooling fauna to keep for consideration, will also be adding otto and amano shrimp as cleaning crew
thanks in advance,
looking forward to all suggestion

thanks jwuong, will keep those in mind...
I haven't seen Sundadanio axelrodi lately, as for Danio margaritatus, I don't think they will school well in the tank of that size in the photo because of the dominant males combative nature. Have you considered tiny & peacful schooling cory, Corydoras hastatus? I saw a huge school at JZX boutique a couple of weeks ago.

Currently keeping large predatory fish 🐟
Sundadanio axelrodi, I saw them at C328 a few days ago, in one of the tanks at the betta rack. Galaxy Danios will school from time to time. I have a small school in my tank and they move together when spooked.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable

That's odd, my galaxy danios bicker a lot among themselves, not really good schooling fishes from my observation, as compared to the boraras maculatus which shares the same tank, so I was highly doubtful & hesitant to add it's cousin species, Danio erythromicron when they are readily available. They might do better in larger tank. Sundadanio axelrodi might just be a suitable candidate for tank of that size, they are better schooling fishes.

Hi all, thanks for the advises, ended with 7 pieces of pristella tetras bought 8 by 1 did not make it)...
Slightly off-topic,
Shadow, there's new Sundadanio species just recently described. What we see at the LFS may not be S. axelrodi. I don't have a copy of the description paper:
Conway, K.W., Kottelat, M. & Tan, H.H. (2011): Review of the Southeast Asian miniature cyprinid genus Sundadanio (Ostariophysi: Cyprinidae) with descriptions of seven new species from Indonesia and Malaysia. Ichthyological Exploration of Freshwaters, 22 (3): 251-288.
New species are S. atomus, echinus, gargula, goblinus, margarition, retiarius, rubellus.
Need to pay for a copy of the description paper, unless hwchoy has it.
Oliver, the only fish I can think of, that fits your description are Monodactylus, or just Monos, which are brackish water fishes.

You mean this link? – http://www.pfeil-verlag.de/04biol/pdf/ief22_3_08.pdf
Complete with beautiful images of all different types of sundadanio, gorgeous!
I saw the file, very nice fish. In fact I think we have seen at least S. rubellus locally, along with S. gargula I think.
