I highly doubt you're using 6000 watts tube since they are non existent. Anyway, I used to use AEC PL tubes. The first batch was OK but the 2nd batch used had poor lifespan.
Now I'm using 150W Osram MH 150W tubes.
Me using the following:
4 x 55 watts PL 6,500K Elbiru
4 x 36 watts PL 10,000K Coralife
1 x 40 watts FL 10,000K Coralife (for supporting flanks of tank)

My faithful 36W/6500K FL light - Philips 865 or Hitachi Tri-phos.
For:
-Brighter light reproduction
-Efficient in terms of lumens/watt
-Natural and uniform flooding light
-Cheaper
-Reliable
-Less heat
-Wider range of selections
Against:
-Less compact than PL
-Less penetration than MH

How often must the tubes be changed?
I'm currently using 36W Elbiru 6500K tubes and they are getting dim after 7 months of usage. The lights are on 12hrs daily.
