As per title; I noticed there are some brown spots on the leaves on my plants, even on my nanas. I suppose these are bad signs, but what are these exactly and what do they tell the aquarist?

lack of nutrient. Can you post your setup detail, soil, light wattage, light hour temp, fert dosage, etc?

    Tank size? Light wattage? CO2?

Not sure how fertile is planta soil, but you miss the macro (N, P, K) fert dosing

2ft, and I can't remember the wattage on it. Yes to CO2, but it's DIY and I just found it not working last night (might be the outlet pipe problem).

Is excel necessary? N, P, K is necessary?

    Re: brown spots on plant

Excel is not necessary but NPK is needed for plant to photosynthesis and grow. Some soil like ADA Aquasoil already have N and P which probably last for a year before its depleted. Adding liquid fert will lengthen the life of the soil

    Re: brown spots on plant

excel flourish Nitrogen and Potassium concentration is very low

    From Seachem website
    Total Nitrogen = 0.07%
    Available Phosphate (P2O5) = 0.01%

    Re: brown spots on plant

Since you already use seachem, you can add Seachem Flourish Nitrogen, Seachem Flourish Phosphorus and Seachem Flourish Potassium.

There are also all in one Macro fertilizer like Wonder-gro Macro. Not sure if it is still available in the market, hardly see. There are probably other brand as well.

By the way you have not post photos of your problematic plant. Hard to identify just base on incomplete description. I might totally wrong

    Re: brown spots on plant

Ok, here are the pictures. Pictures are not as clear as I want them to be as its taken on the iphone, but it should show you what I mean.

Brown edges on this plant. Can help ID also?

Some of the leaves on this plant has wrinkled, which is a sign of bad health I suppose. Need help to ID plant also (is this rotala macrandra "variegated"?).

Another picture of the above plant.

anubias barteri var barteri "broad leaf" (did I get this right?) You can see brown edges also. I went home last night and it did seem better after dosing the liquid fertilisers the previous night.

anubias barteri var nana "petite" (or mini nana? did I get this right also?). You can see some leaves are in bad shape and I want to trim them this weekend when I do my WC.

    Re: brown spots on plant

    Thats better

Curling/twisted/distorted leaf can be cause due to lack of CO2, K, Ca. Ca is very unlikely, most likely due to K provided you inject enough CO2

Yellow patch or leaf turn yellow can be cause due to lack of N and K. There are many nutrient deficiency that can cause leaf to turn yellow but N and K is the major.
