dutch style is actually a systematic, terracing style yet nice to see
japanese style is more to a natural setting, or anything u feel looks natural

Mine is Singapore canal style. Slow flowing, heavily polluted water(high NO3 and PO4) with high infestation of algae![] []

Check out the galleries at these sites for comparison:

    Japanese: http://www.vectrapoint.com/
    Dutch: http://www.ntnu.no/~foksen/

Incidentally, anyone knows why they called it "Dutch Style" and not European, English or German style? Did some Dutch popularise it? Just as in Takashi Amano for Japanese style.

    Cheers!

for me, I wouldnt refer to Amano's work as Japanese style, unless its a 'Zen' concept.. most of his tank is using 'Nature style'

I tikum huh... it started in Europe that's for sure. because of the resemblence to neatly manicured dutch gardens (think Tulip fields)...
I agreee that the local style is as you people described. much like the Amercian style... more collectors than aquascaping. I fall into the collectors catergory also.. heehee "Wu kang doh chek" (got hole then insert)... we are tooo pampered with the selection of plants that we have...

Note: Having emersed growth doesn't mean dutch tank hor. the style refers more of the arrangement of plant groups than whether it has emersed growth or not.

    yeah rojak style,

1: make a plan, buy the plants, put it in.

2: some plants don't grow, so throw them away. so now got gaps.

3: buy some plants, fill in those gaps.

4: wow, see nice plant, buy, rearrange, put it in any small space you got.

    repeat rinse, rojak tank
