Remember coming across a very nice green leafy and low lushy foreground plant termed by some of you guys as APP. Tried to search the forum but to no avail.

Any advice where I can get it and the conditions for a successful growth? Thanks in advance.

APP (Ah Pek Plant), or Elatine triandra, is relatively easy. All it needs is about 2wpg or more. Best under direct light. Those planted in the shade will tend to grow upwards. Not very demanding and responds well with a nice bright green when conditions are right. Fast grower and does not attract much algae.

I used to have a lot to give as they double in mass every week, but I've switched foreground plants so I have none left. Maybe some of the other forumers will have some for you.

agree with vic....once they root in the rate of growth is pretty fast. trimming is necessary or else the bottom rots and the APP will float up. plecos or cories might disturb the initial rooting process. it will be best to give the app one to two weeks to root in....without disturbances :P

My cories didn't like it... they preferred to forage in the substrate, and APP gets too thick for them to do that.

A point to note about E.tiandra, they are N hungry plant. Do monitor the NO3 level when growing them. Capricorn or Bioplast should carry these plants (but not confirm).
    Cheers!!

    We'll get that fixed.

Meanwhile, click on the small name next to the big name instead. That works.

I'll second that hungry NO3 plant comment.
Mic Umbrosum is another similar hungry NO3 plant.

Don't let the NO3 fall for very long. Try to keep it higher than you may have in the past.

    Then those plants are weeds

    Maintaining NO3

You could add KNO3 to increase your NO3 or maintain it. Keep the amount about 5 - 10 ppm. It should do the trick.

    Tom,
I have Mic Umbrosum and MM. Are MM on the same line as MU? Hmm..

    It's named after him.
