Hi bro! this is a great thread. learning alot from it. im starting a 3foot shrimp tank soon as well so dont mind me hoping on to the bandwagon. anyways, answering ur question, if u're on a budget i guess ur best option is only resun. cl280 is enough for a 3foot but that will be fully maximizing the potential of ur chiller, which could mean higher electricity bill, or a break down. as far as i know alot of ppl are using cl280 for a 3ft with no issues. on the other hand u could try with a cl650 which costs around $150-$250 for a 2nd hand

with this budget u could get either a brand new cl280, or a 2nd hand 300A, 500A, or in some cases if u're lucky u could get a 2nd hand teco or even artica chiller.

I suggest you get resun/ hailea or Gex. Can get like CL-450, HC-300A, GXC-400.
any idea whats the price range between the 3 models you listed?

i'm still looking around, checking for prices. haha.
i'm willing to invest on a new set if the price is not too steep.
i'm just afraid the 2nd hand set will give me problem and because its most likely be without warranty anymore.

Actually for that price, you should be able to get a new hailea 1/10 chiller. If you do intend to upgrade to a 3 footer in the near future, maybe consider getting 1/6hp chiller which you might need to stretch your budget.

I will say 1/4 or 1/6 might be a better option.

Ok I'll check out the prices tomorrow.
If price for 1/6 or 1/4 is within my budget then I'll probably get a 3 feet tank.
It's the cabinet that is killing me.

If you are looking retail price is about $350 - $450. If second hand you could get $150~$200.

    Anyone tried H.E.L.P Advanced Soil?
It's stated in its website that it lowers ph & kh..

Noticed some LFS brought it in and they stopped bringing in benibachi shrimp soil..

Re: Help needed for 1st attempt of a 2 feet shrimp tank

I tried before when I first started due to its price.

To be fair to the soil, I know nuts when I first started and eventually all the shrimps went dead after 2 weeks.

Currently using Ada 2 soil, was quite satisfy till now. But I did heard rumors that certain batch did give out some issues.
