I think so. The plant in the pic is commonly called Lucky Bamboo.

Typically they grow this plant in a twisty fashion, but the one in your pic is very robust. I guess it's a good sign too.

I have the water version which have it's leaves looking like this, but with only one section. I'ts been in my tank for two months already and still going strong. The leaves are harder than other plants. I wonder whether it is 'converted' from the air version.

The plant should not be fully submersed. If your lucky bamboo is already growing out of water and doing well, leave it that way. You don't want a lucky plant dying in case your experiment fails.

This is not a true aquatic plant, it belongs to the Dracaena species. I used to have it in my old tank setup and it can survive for months. After changing scape, I took it out and place it into normal gardening soil in a pot and it can also survive well till now.

Re: what is the name of this plant?

This is a particular cultivar of Dracaena sanderiana, it's not the same as the regular/typical 观音竹 that is more common. They are the same species though.

Locally, what we call 发财树 is actually Zamioculas zamiifolia

Twisted ones are called Chinese Bamboo. Chinese refer to as 步步高升 (Bu Bu Gao Sheng) for straight ones and 转运竹 (Change Luck Bamboo) for twisted one - this is the type that you cannot any-o-how buy. There are different type of bamboos as well. The one in the picture should be best kept half submerge in water using hydro-pellets. I also still have one of those on my desk. : > Haven't die on me after all these years.

Well the upright one still has some meaning to it. As long as the plant is kept healthy, the symbolism is there. For me, Money Plant is already good.

Re: what is the name of this plant?

so far i kept it half submerged as my mum wants " 风声水起" without fully submerged in case it fail...so far so good seem to be doing well...though have not "huat" yet...if not it might be an excuse for me to set up another tank at that position

You have to monitor leave color and action. Use tank water.
