Nice existing tank you have there.May I know what plants are those in the foreground?
Can't wait to see your new tank updates!
After being poison by ADA aquajournal. I decided to upgrade my existing 7 gallon tank.
Existing low tech excel tank:
Finding it getting messy. Plants are growing rather well in it. Thinking, why not upgrade the tank and perhaps add more rasbora and more shrimps.
And so, I manage to customize a tank of my dream. Fitting into a weird corner of my room. Its a 48 x 12 x 16 inch opic-white tank custom made by fishybusiness.
After a few weeks, my tank finally arrive!
The interior:
My existing 7 Gallon can be seen at the bottom right of the photos.
Seeing the blue glass just made me high already.
More updates coming soon.

Looking forward to updates!
A photo of me posing with the amount of soil for the tank:
Official opening of the first pack of substrate, ADA power sand special:
Was so excited and yet amazed by the power sand. 'What is it that is inside that make it worth so much':
The amount of rocks and wood:
My nephew came in and start to poke around everything:
After pouring the soil and rocks:
This is not the final layout. But more or less there. Just want to put water in and cycle the system. Plants coming in a few days time.
After planting and move the wood:
The piece of rock is use to weight down on the wood, love the contrast:
The tank is so far dose with excel. Not sure if the Rotala rotundifolia Red will be able to stay constantly red. Lighting is at 36x2 watt. Still considering whether to add CO2 into the tank.
Being 4 feet, don't think 1 co2 diffuser is enough right? If I just place at the left end.

Below are the technical part of the tank:
Size: 48x12x 16 inch (custom-made)
Volume: Approximate 30 Gallons
Substrate: ADA power sand special (4L), ADA Amazonia (9L), Gex Red (8kg), Gex Light Green (1kg)
Lighting: Aquasonic 36w x 2, for 8 hours at the moment
Additive: Seachem excel, Flourish comprehensive to be added after a week of setup
Flora: Rotala rotundifolia Red, Rotala rotundifolia Green, Japan hairgrass, Anubias barteria var. nana 'golden', Crypt. wendtii Green, Crypt. wendtii brown, Java fern, Taiwan Java fern, Marsilea hirsuta.
Fauna: Shrimps and rasbora.

What is your tank dimension? 4ft should be much bigger than 30 gallon. You should not mixed ADA Aquasoil with GEX soil, not that is wrong, it just that GEX soil is not as fertile as ADA Aquasoil. Unless it is cost reason, its better to stick to ADA Aquasoil.
Powersand is basically pumice + NPK (Barr report)

Just notice you post the tank size right before I post my question
By the way you need to dose K. ADA soil have N and P but lack of K.
Oh okay can. Will get K to dose. Will I need to dose P as well?
Reading mix review of using the pure ADA. Issue of cloudiness and high ammonia. So decide to try mixing it with Gex.

4 feet slim
Good selection of plants, btw the light period is during the day? Saw the tank is near the window. Might have some unwanted effect. Just my 50 cents.

Nice setup. Personally feel that the fern too big.

The fern look like still emerge leaf, it will melt about 1 or 2 month and replace by new submerge leaf which normally smaller (at least in my tank)![]()

cloudiness issue was with original ADA Amazonia. Although is should not be much of issue with correct way of pouring water. I heard ADA New Amazonia is even better, have not try yet.
High Ammonia at initial stage is good, provide nutrient to your plants as well as food to kick start beneficial bacteria. It should not be a problem if you cycle your tank properly.
Yup, I agree that the fern is too big. Realize it after putting into my tank.
The window location provide additional light, hopefully no algae issue. Dosing excel for this tank at the moment. Still deciding whether to get CO2.

Nice tank with clean water looking forward for your update![]()
Here some updates:
Most crypt are fully melted. Is rather depressing to see them melt till this level. Just have to wait and see whether it recover
Hairgrass since to spread and show signs of growing. Photo taken on day 5 since setup.
Overall front shot taken on day 8 since setup. Rasbora is being transfer in from existing tank. 5 nos of Oto catfish are added as well.

wow looks promising, i think the crpyt is going through a conversion stage if given the correct environment they will grow up beautiful. planting those hair grass must be very tiring and back killing huh?looks like you've planted a lot of hair grass. i think those red plant requires high lighting to stay that way and high lighting means you'll have to add in CO2 and it's going to be a high tech tank.

Oh, I actually place all the ready planted hairgrass on a tray. So planting the 6 pots of them is not as tiring. But seeing them showing signs of growth is rather rewarding. Not sure if I want to dive into CO2. So far everything have been growing well with just excel only. Let me try if red rotala can stay red with just excel only *finger cross*
Why don't you leave it as it is first and if there is problems with growth later then go into CO2.
