You can remove some soil, put in cup, put your water then measure ph. Think its soil, if confirm soil unable to lower ph, prep for rescape with new soil. At that pt, tell yourself you have done your best, no regrets.

Interesting, it should not happen since you are using ADA soil unless it is not a new soil

Will try your suggestions and measure it in a cup. However does the soil losses it acidity so fast and easily?

Shouldn't be so high. Mine 3 years still okay. If it drops to ph 6.3-6.5 without any water change, it means it is your water or your water change regime, this one still not so bad, can be remedied.

Side question, got mix soil or add coral chip?

Never mixed soil and no coral chip. Just ADA Amazonia normal and powder soil with Power sand special.

Do you have rocks of any sort in the tank? As for Biohome, I have no idea if it affects pH.

You can remove media and put sponge for the time being.

    Re: New Tank

Based on my understanding both media should not be contributing much changes to the water ph level. I still suspect your soil not able to buffer the ph down. I will strongly recommend you to reset your tank.

By the way, if you wish to dispose your soil, I will like to have it for some experiment. Hehe..

    Re: New Tank

Just read from another forum that there are cases of people using substrat pro that cause the ph went above 7. Not much details was shared. Just for your reference.

Hi bro darrentyl, I manage to dig up a thread by a fellow forumer ecalyte also faced this issue previously but do not know the outcome as it was not updated after that. I have tested the biohome plus media with a separate cup of the water and seems like doesn't change in ph . Ph is 7.5 same as tap.
How was does the Ph change when put soil and water? Is it instant or need to wait for 24hr?

Hi Bro Shadow, did 80% water change and waited for 24hr later and measure Ph still 7.5
I even open my canister, make sure no stone or debris. Change the wool of the canister , Ph still 7.5

I'm thinking of change the media to powerhouse as I read that it's has lower ph function and for softwater.

Any review or advice on this move?

    Re: New Tank

My only suspect at the moment is actually not the soil. It's too much water change. Perhaps there is not enough time for the ph to buffer down.
