Hi all. I'm looking to dose the following for my non-CO2 planted tank on a weekly basis -

1/4 Teaspoon of Seachem Equilibrium (for traces and Calcium + Magnesium). (1.42 ppm Ca, 0.42 ppm Mg, 3.43 ppm K and 0.02 ppm Fe)

    1/8 Teaspoon of KNO3 (Potassium Nitrate) (5.27 ppm NO3 and 3.32 ppm K)

    1/32 Teaspoon of KH2PO4 (Potassium Mono Phosphate) (1.61 ppm PO4 and 0.66 ppm K)

However, KNO3 is a controlled and sensitive item in Singapore and thus, will like to seek advice on a product that is readily available and can be found in our market to substitute KNO3.

I'm very new to EI dosing and have almost zero knowledge on this and will be greatly appreciative to advice.

    Thank you.

    Re: EI Dosing (Potassium Nitrate)

You can use Ca(NO3)2 *Calcium Nitrate to replace it. Just up the dose to 2X the amount of KNO3.

What I know is "Seachem Equilibrium" is meant to used during water change and cannot be replaced as a micro.

Mystikboy please verify. If that's true I'm gonna renew my stock of old KNO3 from pre-Osama days.

The one I purchased is the macro micro mix. It's a blend with potassium nitrate as a component. It delivered to my place without any issues. However, I stress, it is a one pound mix with KNO3 as a quarter of it. So it is about 100 odd grammes? Correct me if i am wrong

That's why folks are getting KNO3 mixed rather then pure KNO3..... Damn it, still can't bring in

Ah that's a bummer. I guess CaNO3 is still the way to go.

By HSA, importing controlled item will result in fine of $5K for first time offender.

Oh ok I see. I didn't know. I was thinking a case by case instead of a blanket ban. Thanks for enlightening! Fortunately mine was allowed

Actually I saw another aq member post his purchase of the exact same mix. Perhaps as a mix and as a fertilizer the ban is relaxed?

Can I ask, based on the following 'formulae' that I initially posted:

Can I dose 2 x the amount of potassium nitrate with calcium nitrate and achieve the same 'result'?

If so, where does the macro N,P and K originates from? Thank you for enlightening a complete EI newbie.
