Hi All, recently I have this little insect in my CRS tank and is growing in population quite fast. It look like a fly in the water.

Does anyone know what it is?
How do I clear out this insect?
Have put in 5 baboras, they dont seem to like to eat this fly.

    Thanks.

Stormy more experience in this kinda identification...not within my league yet. I can't tell. But even if seed shrimp, eventually the colony will collapse or being eaten by fish, hence there is no worries. By feeding less, the fish will eat them.

Seed shrimps they are harmless actually you might have over feed but there is a theory if you have boom on seed shrimps you might not see planaria. Cause they compete for food but I don't how true it just a theory I however have seed shrimps never boom but god damn planaria boom.

With the boom of seed shrimps, there may be a chance of having Hydra in your tank as Hydra prey alot on seed shrimp .. So beware though ..

Same goes here, have hydra infested my tank from the plant I purchase from C 328 . Thats why use dewormer to clear all of them. so now I need to get guppies to eat all of them up.

Any suggestion which type of guppies to purchase? Those cheap ones that use for feeding of any bros and sis have any to spare.

Just now was using the air tube to suck out 3 liter of water full of it. Still there is a lot of them in my tank. Hai...

see any nearby lfs or not. If not, goto C328 and get a few. 1-2 will do, but I dunno how you want to clear off the shrimps from the tank. I think they will disturb the shrimps.

Yup, seed shrimps. You can just trap them with the Gush pen or similar. They're good as fish food and Boraras will eat them. Not sure why yours avoid them. CPD will eat these too.
    Fish.. Simply Irresistable

    Re: Help needed to identify

It's a sign of mature tank...
Gush pen will be the choice if you intend to clear them off...

It's not necessary to remove as it does no harms to the shrimps at all...just kinda irritating when the population booms!!

Oooo...I remember the Gush Pen, can put wafer / micro pellet inside. Yes, that would be a splendid idea compared to introducing guppies and it isn't very expensive!
Gush Pen is sold at GC, I did not take note of the cost but it's a fatty glassy PEN shaped thingy. Saw Wilfred getting one last week.

    Re: Help needed to identify

Eca, I used to have brigittae that would eat these seed shrimps. Lampeye killies will eat them too. Not sure why some Boraras don't touch them. Maybe because they have a tough shell.

@Owls, I mean that these seed shrimps are great as fish food for some fishes. In the traps they typically place shrimp or fish food inside, which these seed shrimps like to feed on.

Ok thanks for the explanation, by the way any other small fish feed on seed shrimp that does not hurt my CRS? I am not feeding my baboras for 4 days, will check whether they will eat them.
